Hi everybody,
I think some of you had caught Agalia on a television programme. Below is an article which she wrote about her experiences. Do spend some time reading it.
An Unforgettable experience on 'SuperTrain' Programme
I have been attending Chinese enrichment classes at Eduplus Language Centre. Some time in November 2007, my teacher asked if I was interested to attend an audition for a Mandarin programme to be aired on Channel 8. I was ecstatic and readily agreed.
On the day of the audition at Moving Visual, I had to stand in front of the camera, introduced myself and answered some questions. I was told that based on the interview, I would be informed later if I was shortlisted to participate in the filming of ‘SuperTrain’ programme – a children’s programme where kids take the MRT train around Singapore, to find out the interesting places around each MRT stops. After two days of anxious waiting, my mum was informed that I was shortlisted for the recording, scheduled on 21 November 2007.
A day before the filming, the person in-charge, Lincoln called to inform us that my partner for the programme had backed out of the show. I was to quickly find myself a new partner. Knowing that my best friend, Shi Ying would be interested, I called her immediately. She was as happy as I was and gladly agreed to join me for the filming.
The filming started after lunch. Our first stop was the Orchard Station. There, we met our host, Pornzak and Li Teng. We were divided into two teams – Blue and Yellow. Shi Ying and I belonged to the Blue team. First, we had to answer a question. Shi Ying and I answered the question correctly and won the rights to delay the Yellow team from proceeding at anytime during the game for 5 minutes. Next, we had to fix a puzzle for clues to our next MRT station. The Yellow team was much faster than us in completing the puzzle. We then decided to delay them for 5 minutes.
We then proceeded to Toa Payoh to find the Zhong Hua Hospital. There, we had to count the total number of Chinese herbs. There were a total of 660 different kinds of Chinese herbs. Next, we proceeded to Kranji. We found out that the largest fresh water fish was the ‘Giant Dragon’. Our last destination was the Frog Farm. Our final challenges were to differentiate between the male and female bull frogs and to fish out the four different growth stages of the bull frogs. When we completed our challenges, the Yellow team had just arrived. We were the obvious winner. However, the Yellow team was sporty enough to complete their challenges. I felt very happy to have won.
It was indeed an unforgettable experience filming for the programme. During the filming, we had to bear in mind not to run too fast. Otherwise, the camera man would not be able to capture us on film. Certain scenes were considered ‘NG’, meaning ‘No Good’ and had to be re-filmed. We spent about 6 hours filming for the programme. But the final edited version aired on television was probably a mere 20 minutes.
It was a tiring but fulfilling day for me. I really had so much fun and had gained more knowledge about Singapore.
