Dear all,

I would like you to comment on the learning journey to the aeroponics farm.

What does AVA stand for?

What are the interesting facts you have learnt from the presentation on AVA? (List two)

What have you have learnt from the tour of the aeroponics farm, especially the greenhouse? (List two)

Which part of the learning journey do you like best?

Firstly,I have learnt that the AVA have helped Singaporeans eat safely and make sure that the animals and plants are healthy.

Secondly,(I took down notes for this)from the tour of the green house,I have learnt that the seedlings are stored in the nursery. They also do not like the rain to get in the green house because the rain will wash away the nutrients absorb by the plants.

Finally,my favourite part of the learning journey is when we can see different types of leaves and flowers, like the cotton rose and the chive.

Hi all! I would like to comment on the learning journey to the aeroponics farm.

AVA stands for Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority. Some interesting facts I have learnt about AVA are that Agrotechnology Parks are modern agriculture estates developed with the necessary infrastructure for farming and there are six agrotechnology parks in Singapore. They are located at Lim Chu Kang, Murai, Sungei Tengah, Nee Soon, Mandai and Loyang.

Now I would like to share what I have learnt about the tour of the aeroponis farm...

Aeroponics is the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil and it also refers to the method of growing crops with their roots suspended in a misted nutrient solution. It is alao considered to be safe and ecologically friendly for producing natural, healthy plants and crops. The main ecological advantages of aeroponics are the conservation of water and energy.
Now, I would like to share what I have learnt about greenhouses...

A greenhouse is a structure with a glass or plastic roof and frequently glass or plastic walls. Greenhouses are often used for growing flowers, vegetables, fruits, and tobacco plants. Also, the closed environment of a greenhouse has its own unique requirements, compared with outdoor production.
Now, I would like to share with you the part of the learning journey I like best...

I like the part when we went to the aeroponic farms and greenhouses as we could see the different kinds of leaves, for example, the mint leaf, the curry leaf, the lemon grass and more! I also like the part where we get to see all the different cactus varieties.

I also bought a cactus and left it on my table. What had happened to the cactus that you bought, Jo-wayn?

Hi! Ms Pang asked us about our learning journey...

I really like the learning journey because my family seldom bring me to such places and we don't really get to see farms in singapore nowadays! I only don't like it when I get mosquito bites. If I cout them, I have about 4-5!

AVA is also called 'Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore'.
I learnt that AVA helps us to make sure the food is clean so we can eat it (without geting food poisoning) and they make sure our pets or any animals in Singapore are healthy... together with the plants!

I learnt that aeroponics is the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment without the use of soil or an aggregate medium. Baby plants (also called seedlings) are kept in a nursery like us when we are young!

I like the part when we get to see and smell the diffrent types of plant leaves!

B.B! (: Sim Jia Yi :)

AVA helps Singaporean eat safely and keep the animals and plants healthy.

Next, I have learn that the plants are covered by some sort of covering that prevent the young of butterfly and other harmful insects from eating the plants and also the rain water will not wash off the nutrients.

Finally, my favourite part is the part we have recess in the vegetable farm as we can eat snacks ans also smelling and seeing differnt types of plants.

I learnt that the AVA stands for agri-food and veterinary authority if that is what I remembered. The AVA helps people by making sure that the food is far from any diseases or viruses and make sure that the plants and animals are growing healthily.

The guide then brought us a tour to the nursery. She also told us two new words, hydroponic and aeroponic. She taught us an easy way to remember the meanings of the two words. Aeroponic is like "taking a shower". That means, the plants do not use soil, but get sprayed with a solution that has the same nutrients as soil. Hydroponic is like "taking a bath". The plants get submerged into the solution instead of getting sprayed.

I enjoyed the part of the learning journey where we got to smell different plants, e.g, the laksa leaf, the mint leaf, the lemon grass, the curry leaf and the chives.

The AVA stands for Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority. It ensures a resilient supply of safe food, to safeguard the health of animals and plants and facilitate agri-trade for the well-being of the nation.

The aeroponics greenhouse has a plastic or glass shelter that prevents rain water from washing away the nutrients absorb by the plant. There is also a netting that stops insects like the butterfly, caterpillers, snail and ladybugs from entering the greenhouse.

I learnt that the plants in the greenhouse get their nutrients from the sprinkler below their roots and it saves water as the excess water will be collected and stored in a undergroud river.(The one with the big hole and covering.)

I love the part when we get to smell the mint, lemon grass, curry leaf, etc.

Hi Miss Pang!
AVA stands for Agri - Food and Vetinary Authority, like everybody knows. The AVA is very helpful to us, and leeps our food, our enviroment, animals and plants all around us healthy and safe. I have also learnt about aeroponics and hydroponics.

Aeroponics are plants where their roots take in water which is sprayed onto them. Elmer also showed me the device they use to take the temperature of the room. It was humid, but only 27 degrees celcius.

Hydroponics are different, their roots are soaked in water all the time. They take in the nutrients they need whenever they want to.

I would like to highlight about this, it is the short movie we watched. The actors and actress were very hilarious, at the same time, it caught my attention because of its funny actions and conversations and the cool information about egg farms plant farms and fish farms.

One more thing, about the greenhouse. I have come across this word too many times in storybooks, but I have never seen it at all. They actually use greenhouses to store the aeroponics and hydroponics.

As Jia Xin has mentioned, I like experiencing smelling the strong scent of mint, the smell of laksa and finding out that Passion fruits actually hang from creepers hanging around the top of the ceiling.

I know that I had an enjoyable time and I would like to visit the fish farm next time!

AVA stands for the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority. The AVA helps keep the plants and animals safe for us Singaporeans to consume.

I have learned that at the aeroponics farm, the plants are left in a nursery and are sprayed with water using machines. They do mot like pests coming in as the pests will eat their vegetables, especially the caterpillar. But luckily, the use some sort of net to prevent those pests from entering. They also put plastic covering the top as they say that rain washes the nutrients that the give the plants.

My favourite part was when we got to smell all of the different kinds of leaves and spices.I also liked the part when we went to see the baby plants.I took a picture but they looked like dots.

AVA stands for Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority.(Singapore)

They told us that aeroponics is a method of growing plants whereby the roots of the plants are suspended in the air and a fine mist of nutrients is sprayed over the roots. They also do something
to protect the animals.
I learnt that a cotten plant's flower survives for only one day! I also learnt that the aeroponics farm has a nursery for baby plants.
The best part of the learning journey was that I had a new friend from China.

I have learnt that AVA has help us in lots of way in such as they make sure the food we eat are not harmful to us and make sure that animals and plants are healthy.

The plants are growed in a green house that do not allow rain to get in as it will wash away all the nutrients absorb by the plants.

My fovourite part of this learning journey is the part when me and Elin thought of an idea to have a collection of leaves and flowers of different types of plants.

AVA stands for Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority.AVA keeps our food healthy and free from food poisoning. It is very important as if we eat dirty food without knowing,we will get a terrible stomach ache.

The green house are stored in the nursery where there is a netting on top of the seedlings to prevent the seedlings from taking in rain water when it rains. It also prevents the butterfly from entering to lay its eggs on the seedlings. The rain water will also wash away all the nutrients taken in by the plants.

I have also learnt something interesting. They do not use soil to grow their plants!!!

My favorite part of the learning journey was when they showed us the different types of spices and herbs.(but i did not like the mosquitoes there as i had 5 mosquitoes bites there.

AVA stands for Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority.
I learnt that how the AVA helped singapore, like making sure that Singaporeans eat safely and check the animals that are transport from another country
I also took down notes about the green houses.(Like Jia Xin)Notes like roots are actually white not brown and they have plastic roofs to protect the seedlings form the rain.
My favourite part is when I can buy a small cactus.Oh ya,and when we can see the different type of leaves like the cotton plant and the cotton rose.

Hello everyone. Sorry for the late reply.Anyway, the AVA stands for Agri-food and veterinary Authority.I learnt that the AVA helps keep the food we eat safe by checking it carefully, as well as more about aeroponics and hydroponics.

Next, from the tour of the green houses, I learnt that the greenhouses are covered with netting and plastic to keep out insects and acid rain.I also learnt that some veggies that are grown there can be used in cooking.(Laksa, curry e.t.c)

The part I like best is when we got to watch the video! As well as the part when we got to see the cactuses.

Hi FRIENDS!!!I would like to comment on the learning journey to the aeroponics farm...

AVA stands for Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority.I learnt that they help us Singaporeans make sure that the food imported from other countries are clean and not infected with any kind of virus.I have also learnt that there are aeroponics and hydroponics.( I heard of them before, but i did not really knew what it meant!)

Now I will tell you what I had learnt from the tour of the aeroponics farm...

From the tour of the aeroponics farm,I learnt that the greenhouse is covered with a plastic or glass shelter that prevents rain water from washing away the nutrients absorb by the plant and acid from the rain water (most unlikely) from entering into the greenhouse. I also learnt that aeroponics is the process of growing plants in air or mist environment without the use of soil by spraying the plants roots with nutrients directly.Hence, the plants will grow healthier and faster.

Now, for my favourite part of the excursion,is............................................................................................................................................. THE TOUR SHOWING US THE DIFFERENT HERBS AND LEAVES!!!

I LOVED it because I gained more experience about the different leaves and flowers and herbs and etc. such as laksa leaves, mint leaves, cotton rose, the chives, curry leaves ,lemon grass and more!!! Hopefully, the school will organise a excursion to the goat farm or something.

Bye!!!!

Which part of the learning journey do you like best?

I learnt that AVA stands for Agri-food and Veterinary Authority.
I found out what is the difference between Aeroponics and Hydroponicsat the presentation.Workers in AVA also make sure that the animals and plants at the farm are healthy.
I also learnt that the greenhouse has a net around it to prevent any insects to go in to lay eggs.
The seedlings are also stored in the nursery at the farm.
The best part of the learning journey is that I get to smell the leaves in the farm. I did not know that some leaves have smells.I like the lemongrass the best.

AVA stands for Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority.
From the presentation, I have learnt that AVA checks the food to make sure it is safe to eat. AVA also makes sure that Singapore is free of animal diseases.
From the tour I learnt how to diffrentiate hydroponics and aeroponics and I also learnt that greenhouses use plastic to make their roof so as to not allow rainwater to come in because it will affect the plants.
I like the part where we saw and smelt the different leaves and flowers (:

AVA stands for Agri-food & Veterinary Authority. They checked the foods imported from other countries are safe. I had also learnt about the differences about Aeroponics & Hydroponics.
Aeroponics- The roots absorb nutrients and water from the air.
Hydroponics- The roots submerged in water.
What I like best about the learning journey is the trip to the greenhouse. I learnt a lot of things there. I saw plants like cotton plant, lemon grass, chive and a lot more. I like the smell of mint best of all. At first when I smelled it, it smelled very…..YUCKY! Second time, it smelled nice, very cooling and makes in a good mood. Maybe you think I am exaggerating… …

Hey guys ( and gals ), i'm commenting on the trip to the aeroponic farm. Actually, if you read the Loud Outside Page of my organic farming project group, Tealeaves, newsletter, we actually reviewed the cactuses the farm sold and we bought. So here goes...

First, AVA stands for Agri-food and Vetinary Authority. I learnt in the presentation that AVA makes sure food is safe for Singaporeans to eat and the animals and plants are in good health conditions

Next, i learnt that in the greenhouse, the nursery is covered by nettings to prevent rain as this will wash of the nutrients that the plants have absorbed. It also prevent insects that are harmful to the plants from getting in.

Last but not least, i have 2 favourite parts of the learning journey...or maybe 3...
Iliked the part where we went around to see the different plants, flowers and leaves like the cotton rose (the flower was great), lemongrass (nice smell), mint (aahhhh), chives etc.
And if this counts, i liked the part on the presentation by AVA because not only i got to know more about AVA, we also got to relax in an air-con room! haha!

I have learnt that the AVA makes sure the food Singapore imports from other countries is safe for consumption. It also raises awareness on food safety.Oh yeah, and AVA stands for Agri-food and Veterinary Authority.
Secondly,I learnt that the farmers put plastic roofs on top of the greenhouses as they do not like rain to get into the greenhouses as it washes away the nutrients. My favourite part is when we smelled different leaves.
